Bikram Yoga Changed Me Inside and Out

I began practicing Bikram Yoga about four and a half years ago.  A coworker invited me to join her.  I had always had a curiosity about yoga but had never taken any classes, so I decided to try a class with her.

She warned me that it would be hot, but I had no idea of how hot it would actually be!  The first class was awkward, to say the least.  I couldn't believe how many people there were in the studio.  I had no idea what I was doing, but I liked it and kept going back as often as I could.

I felt great after every class and being surrounded by experienced practitioners was amazing.  It increased my interest in the practice in the hopes that one day I would be able to do some of the postures as beautifully as the others.

Over time my practice has become less about how far I can go in a posture and more about who I am and how I feel when I am in the room. I have found peace in that hot room and have received the benefit of feeling better about myself both physically and emotionally.

Bikram Yoga helps me to get rid of the emotional junk I sometimes carry around with me.  My coworkers even noticed a difference in me; they seemed to like "Gregoria the Yogi" better. They'd tell me that I became more relaxed since I started going to yoga.

Healing Physical and Emotional Pain

Before Bikram Yoga I suffered from back and shoulder pains.  I used to visit a chiropractor on a regular basis.  I haven't had to visit a chiropractor since I started Bikram Yoga and my back is much better.  In addition to alleviating my back pains, Bikram Yoga has helped to relieve my anxiety.  About two years before I started Bikram Yoga, I suffered from anxiety attacks. I can't even begin to describe what a debilitating and awful experience it is to have one of these attacks.

Practicing yoga has been so helpful in keeping my anxiety down to a minimum. Now, when I feel myself getting anxious I hear my instructors' voices telling me that if I breathe through my nose and focus on my breath, my nervous system will calm down. It works both inside and outside of the yoga room.

Bikram Yoga has changed my body both inside and out.  I feel healthier and happier than I ever have been in my life.  I never imagined that going to a yoga class with my spunky friend Valerie would be a life-changing experience. It's very challenging and rewarding. Sometimes when I am suffering through class I wonder why I do it, but I know that Bikram Yoga has helped me to be a better me. One day I hope that I will be able to pass that experience on by becoming an instructor myself.
